Mayor's Towering Challenge 2017
CAPREIT buildings across GTA reduce their environmental footprint
Between September of 2016 & March 2017, select CAPREIT communities across the GTA participated in the Mayor's Towering Challenge. They collaborated with the city of Toronto to reduce waste and encourage recycling among tenants.
Several initiatives were introduced as communities participated in the challenge. Site staff and tenants used existing and new strategies to reduce waste and increase recycling. The participating communities included:
- 10 Tuxedo Court
- 215 Markham Road
- 567 Scarborough Golf Club Road
- 370 McCowan Road
- 2 Park Vista Drive
- 6 Park Vista Drive
- 7 Park Vista Drive
- 8 Park Vista Drive
- 25 Bay Mills Boulevard
- 5 & 15 Tangreen Court
The City of Toronto held an awards ceremony on May 17
, 2017 and we are proud to announce that 5 & 15 Tangreen Crt. won for Best Initiative Using Data. The communities at 5 & 15 Tangreen Crt. used data to track improper recycling methods and found innovative solutions to reduce their environmental footprint.
Initiatives included the creation of a "Resident Waste Log Sheet" and the tracking of incorrect disposal back to each resident by inscribing the unit numbers on delivery boxes. Site staff also informed the residents and the contractors about proper disposal of materials during renovations.
We are proud of all the site staff and residents at 5 & 15 Tangreen Crt. who improved their waste-disposal habits. They've shown everyone what makes CAPREIT such an amazing place to live and work.
